Join us on July 12, 2017 at 5:30PM at the Topsham Public Library for a presentation on worm bins by Jack Robie. The topics of insect control, moisture control, temperature control, aeration, feeding, location, space requirements, convenience, cost, and worm species, will be covered. In addition, explanations about how worm castings and aerated worm tea (made from the castings) are used as soil amendments to enhance plant growth, production, pest and disease resistance. All attendees will be entered into a free raffle with 10 worm bins as prizes!

Jack Robie trained as an engineer in Paper Making Technology and worked his entire career at SD Warren in Westbrook prior to retirement. He has composted with worms for 8 years as a hobby. He keeps 40 ten-gallon totes in his cellar full of compost and worms. Last year Robie harvested about 1200 pounds of castings. In 2011, Robie began giving presentations and workshops in vermiculture to help those interested get started and to assist them for the first year or so with harvesting their worm bins. He has supplemented his practical hands on experience with technical reading and attended the Vermiculture Conference at NC State last summer to learn about the latest technical research in this field.
